Stockholm Seen Through Watercolors is an installation comprising 14 watercolor paintings and a video projection, created as a reflection of my introspective journey during the DIS residency in Stockholm, Sweden. As a first-generation Jamaican-American, travel has been a constant in my life, but my time in Stockholm marked a significant period of personal growth. The watercolors capture the aerial views from plane windows, transforming the mundane routine of life into a vibrant, kaleidoscopic experience.
Each painting is a visual diary entry, a symbol of freedom and the evolving passions that were unlocked during this artist in residence. This work reflects the blend of homesickness and exhilaration that accompanies travel, with the act of painting serving as both a creative outlet and a form of self-soothing, illustrating my journey beyond just a stamp in my passport.
